During the live fire shooting portion of the course, you will be required to demonstrate proficiency with a handgun by shooting a 50-round course at a target at specified distances.
You will also be required to demonstrate your ability to safely handle and operate a handgun. To pass, you must score 70% (175 out of a possible 250 points).
All shooting is from the ready position; no holster shooting or drawing from the concealed position is required.
The distances you will be required to shoot from are as follows:
- 20 Shots from 3 yards
- 20 Shots from 7 yards
- 10 Shots from 15 yards
You will be required to shoot 50 rounds and score a minimum of 175 out of a possible 250 points (70%).
Once you pass this, the instructor complete your Certificate of Training. You will need to submit it to the DPS to complete your application.
We offer handgun training if you would like to receive hands-on training before proceeding with the shooting demonstration
If you do not own a handgun, you can rent one from us for $20, which includes ammunition. Safety equipment will be provided.
